Cats are mysterious creatures that have captured the hearts of people for thousands of years. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, nearly 25% of U.S. households have a pet cat. With so many cats around the world, you probably think you know everything about these curious felines. Guess again! Thereโ€™s more to cats than just sleeping all day.

1. World record for the longest cat EVER is 48.5 inches

Domestic cats tend to be on the smaller side. However, for the Maine Coon breed, thatโ€™s not the case. Meet Stewie, the world's longest cat measuring in at 48.5 inches! It would take a lot of Evolveโ€™s Salmon, Rice, & Sweet Potato to keep Stewie full!

2. Cats can walk through obstacle courses

If you thought cats spend the majority of their time sleeping, youโ€™re right. These professional nappers spend 16-20 hours a day catching up on zโ€™s, which means over 70% of their life is spent sleeping.

4. The richest cat in the world inherited a $12.5 million fortune

According to Guinness World Records, the richest cat in the world, Blackie, inherited $12.5 million from his owner after he passed away.

5. The first and only cat went to space in 1963 ๐Ÿš€

Youโ€™ve probably heard of monkeys and dogs in space, but did you know a cat braved the adventure, too? On October 18, 1963, Felicette, also known as โ€˜Astrocat,โ€™ became the first-ever cat to go to space

6. The oldest cat to live was 38 years old!

Creme Puff, born August 3,1967, lived until August 6, 2005โ€”an amazing 38 years and 3 days! Owner, Jake Perry, sure was doing something right!

7. The loudest purr measured in at 67.8db(A)

Merlin is the proud record holder of the loudest purr. At 67.8db(A), Merlinโ€™s purr was nearly the same volume as a vacuum cleaner!

8. Record speed of a house cat is 30 MPH

The feline family is known for their speed. But did you know that household cats can run around 30 MPH? If youโ€™re wondering how fast that feels, itโ€™s the speed limit of an average country road. Wow, thatโ€™s fast!

9. House cats share 95.6% of their genetic makeup with tigers

study discovered that the feline with the highest percentage of shared DNA with the domestic cat is the tiger (95.6%). They share a lot of the same behaviors such as pouncing, prey stalking, and scent marking.

10. The worldโ€™s longest jump by a cat is 7ft!

Waffle the Warrior is no stranger to big leaps. He achieved the longest cat jump(213.36cm) ever in Big Sur, CA on January 30, 2018. Thatโ€™s about the same height as a professional NBA player, Shaq!
